Big News!

I don't normally put personal stuff on here, but since this will affect the rabbitry, decided to post it. Last friday, my boyfriend Robert proposed! We've been together for almost two years, as of this February. It will be over two years before the wedding will happen, as that's when he'll be done with school. We actually met through the rabbits, as his parents have boughten quite a few Dutch from me, and use to show (Mike & Leslie, for those here in the NW).
Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Monroe Show

Last weekend was the Monroe show. Was happy with how the Dutch did in the first show. My little Black jr doe, Rogue, that I'm excited about won BOS. Was her first show. BOB went to Cassy with a little Black jr buck that she bred. The parents are Rodeo and Revlon, who she got from me last Summer. I love seeing other people do well with my lines-- even if it means beating me!
My Blue sr doe Jada won BOV in the first show, for her first leg. I'm going to breed her soon. I had hoped that I would be able to grand Gemma off, but Rogue beat her out... Gemma will most likely be bred now too.
Not sure how the Dutch did in show B.
Arson, the super marten, picked up his 11th leg, for a BOS in show B.
I came home with another rabbit... Jan sent me home with a really nice Black buck. I haven't gotten his pedigree yet, but I think my dad said that Jan told him that he's the same breeding as her super Blue doe that has been winning all of the reserve in shows. Which that makes the grandmother one of my does. The sire's side is Scott Williamson's breeding.
Next show isn't until March... Debating about going to the Frozen Friends show in Saint Helens at the end of January... Matters what the rabbits look like then.
Right now, the weather has been freezing here, getting into the teens at night, and being barely above freezing during the day. I keep on having to go out to check on the water bottles, and bring them all in at night.
Currently have one rabbit in the house, because of it. I have a really promising Black jr buck, that decided to go off his feed last week. He would not have made it if I left him out in the cold, however is just now starting to drink, eat hay, and munch on a carrot. He should be back to normal soon.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving... a day late! Hope everyone had a good day. My family did (well, those that weren't too sick)... However did find out why my boyfriend and I have been dating for almost two years, yet this was his first time meeting my dad's side of the family! They would have scared him away if we had just started dating!
For rabbitry updates, I updated the stock and for sale pages on my website about a week or so ago. Put up pictures of 3 promising juniors that I have coming up. Will most likely be showing them for the first time next week at Monroe.
On the for sale page, I put a Black buck from Lloyd up on it. He just can't beat his sire, and has a half brother who I like better than him.
In sad news, I lost Cover Girl a couple days after she gave birth to her last litter. She had a really hard labor, and just did not look right after it. I had hoped she would shake it off a couple days later, but didn't. I end up losing her whole litter a few days after her.
In other litter news, I have the following litters:

Born October 26
Stryker x Pipsqueak (have a grogeous Blue doe in it!)
Trelawn Chico x Trelawn Delta

Born November 2
Trelawn Chico x Ladybug

Current litters coming up:
Revolver x Trelawn Lovinia
Revolver x Trelawn Dixie
Chico x Trelawn Libby
Bazooka x Trelawn Taylor
Stryker x Trelawn Inez

Next show is next Saturday in Monroe. I'll be judging at it. Entries are due today, so have to go out and figure out what I'm showing. Mattering on coats, I'll probably be showing 5-6 Dutch, and possibly 4 Silver Martens. Hoping to grand Gemma out at this show, as it will be her last one, cause I want to breed her. Now on my way out to figure out my entry, tattoo juniors, and clean cages!

New Website & Updates

It's been awhile since I've updated this, but have been really busy lately. Have a few updates. First the biggest is, I have a new website! Yes, I know I cut it close to when geocities deletes their websites, and I do worry about people being able to find my site. My new domain is:

http://doubledutchrabbitry.com

Check it out and leave a message in the guestbook. I only have a few pages up so far, more to come. All my free time is being spent getting everything moved over. I do have the my stock page up, with new pics of almost everyone, including all the new Lloyd rabbits.
In other news, I had a bit more problems with feed. I was told that the feed that I had issues with, that their mill cleaned up their act, so had gone back to it... I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but a month later I lost two Silver Martens, and two Dutch (including my best upcoming junior...). I had a few others go off feed, which they eventually get back to eating. I'm working at getting them back into show shape.
I had then gone back to the feed I was feeding before then. I got 5 bags, which the first two were fine... Then the other three were full of a foreign pellet that didn't belong in them. The guy at the feed store said that he's been having problems with this feed being consistent... So that sent me looking for another feed! I have been on what is the most popular feed here in the NW for almost a month now, and so far the rabbits are loving it. A couple that had not touched food immediatly started eating again. It's super green, and fresh looking. My only problem with it, is that it's 17% protein-- I've always used 18%, so hoping they can keep the same condition on them. I'm in a program with a lot of other breeders, where one of them brings it over here by the ton, that way we can get it for only $14 a bag (cost anywhere between $20-24 a bag in the feed store). So far I'm happy with it, I'll know more so in the next few months.
Convention is coming up in a few weeks. No, I'm not going to it. With this set back of losing a few, I have no Dutch worth sending to it. However, Nicole and I are sending two Silver Martens with Scott & Cassy. We're sending Arson and Pyro.
Pyro is a Blue doe from one of our litters last year that we just got back. We had put her in a 4-H auction last January. Her owner was only using her for 4-H breed id, and just stuck her in a fair this last Summer. I was judging at it, and along with another judge, we had picked her as Reserve in Show. She's a gorgeous typed doe, and in nice condition right now. Her color is just a bit uneven... We're happy to have her back, as we lost all her littermates that we kept over her to the feed problem last year. She's out of Pasha and Robin.
I've been to a couple shows, but have only been showing 2-3 Dutch, as nobody has been in condition. Nothing to report, other than DDUF, a Blue jr buck winning BOS at Bremerton (first leg). Jan has continued to dominate with her gorgeous Blue doe, whose won two more Reserve in Shows.
We had the only Silver Marten at Bremerton. Then at Monroe, show A Pyro won BOB (first leg) and Arson won BOS. Show B Arson was BOB.
I have several litters around weaning age right now, that I need to go through. Also have several expecting.

Upcoming litters are:

Due October 26
Stryker x Pipsqueak
Bazooka x Trelawn TL4
Revolver x Trelawn TBL
Trelawn Chico x Trelawn TBD
Stryker x Trelawn TL2
Revolver x Trelawn TL3

Due November 2
Bazooka x Sasha
Revolver x Trelawn BTL
Trelawn Chico x Trelawn Splitz
Trelawn Chico x Ladybug
Stryker x Cover Girl

Show Results

Last weekend was the Clusters of Specialty shows, inconjunction with Kevin's benefit show. It was a very busy day, with several shows going on. The benefit show raised a lot of money though! One of the Mini Rex in the auction went for $400! Above is the judges who were judging in the benefit show. I'm on the end in the blue sweatshirt.
I judged Mini Lops all morning-- there were a lot of them, and several very nice ones! My two best ones end up being in the same class (hate it when that happens!).
By the time I was done judging them, it was time to start the specialty shows, which I was the secretary of. We were down in numbers, compared to usual, only 63 Dutch entered (with breeders selling out, on vacation, etc).
In Eric Stewart's show (new Executive Director of the ARBA) the winners were:
BOB- Jan with a Black buck
BOS- Jan with her awesome Blue doe
Honorable Mention- the Steel doe that I had gotten from Lloyd (stuck her under Lloyd's name, she end up going home with Jan. Earned a leg for BOV Steel!)
In Jake Kuntz's show the winners were:
BOB- Jan's Blue doe
BOS- Lisa & Hilary's Black buck
Then in the all breed show, with Donna Brak judging the winners were:
BOB- Jan's Blue doe
BOS- Pete... not sure with what, as I was judging during this show
My Dutch did pretty good, especially my Black jr doe. She was BOV Black in Donna's show, and BOSV is Eric's for her second and third legs. She was 1st of 4 in Jake's show. DDLB was BOSV Black in Donna's show for his second leg (which he is currently for sale-- very nicely marked buck).
For Silver Marten's, Maddy was BOB. Maryann won BOS with her Black buck. Arson completely blew his coat in the hot weather we were having, so looked horrible.
Nicole and I had Martens leaving to go all over the place. Rainy went to Scott, Stormy went to Larry and Sharon (we traded him for a Black doe, which we'll get in the Fall), and Flash left to go down to California with a transporter. We went through our Rainy x Arson litter, and kept two does, a Black and a Blue.
For Dutch, both Rodeo and Revlon went to Cassy, whose just getting started in the breed.
I have several litters coming up! I bred 8 does (6 of Lloyd's) last Friday and some a few days before that. I also have does due this week.
Due on Friday:
Stryker x Jill's Wild Blue Venus
Stryker x Trelawn Ruby D
Bazooka x Pipsqueak
Due September 4th:
Rodeo x Piper
Rodeo x Ariel
Due September 7th:
Trelawn Chico x Zoe
Trelawn Chico x Ash
One of the Blue does is bred to Stryker and the other to Bazooka
Then 4 Black does from Lloyd are bred to Bazooka, Stryker, and two to Rodeo
(don't have the pedigrees with the names for the new does yet)

New Rabbits!

Wednesday my dad and I made the 5 hour drive to Lloyd's. I told my dad that I did not want anymore than 8 rabbits a week beforehand... The day before, i said defiently no more than 10... I came home with 12... I do not have pedigrees quite yet, so I only have very limited info on them all. I got 9 Blacks, which it wasn't until after picking them all out, I found out they were all his pure Blacks. I got two nice bucks. I'm very excited to be breeding TC into my rabbits. This bucks has an awesome head! Lloyd only had a handful of bucks throughout the years that he considers his greatest, and this buck is one of them. At least 4 of the does I got are daughters of his. I believe he said that TC's sire is Britton's Barry, who was a nice animal, with a Best in Show win.
I also got a young buck, who looks around 5 months old, that is nice too.
All seven of the does are very nice. Five of them have not been bred before, and a few are only 5 months old. I was looking for type only, disregarding the markings, so there are a few not so pleasant marked ones in there. My favorite doe for type is probably my split stop doe. Some of these does go back to Bazooka, and one of them is even out of Johnston's Lucky (a nice buck I got from Don & Carol when they sold out, that Lloyd borrowed).
I also got two Blue does, both are very nice.
Then I got something I did not plan on, and no she's not staying... a Steel doe. What's left of Lloyd's rabbits are going to a meat lady next week, and she was just too gorgeous to send to that. She has a huge buck head, and gorgeous type. I'm tempted to keep her, and do Steels again (probably my fave color after Blacks), but I like keeping my rabbitry small. Jan is going to take a look at her tomorrow at the show, and she will most likely go there.
So since I took more rabbits than planned, I really need to make some cuts... I just do not want to part with anyone though... Luckily I have the cage space, it's just me wanting to keep the herd down to a small easy to care for number (believe it or not, I still have several empty cages).
Currently DDLB a Black 6 month old buck, with one leg for a BOSV and DDAF a Black 4 month old doe with one leg for a BOB are both for sale.
Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day. I'm secretary of the two Dutch specialties, and will be judging in the all breed benefit show. Nicole and I also have to go through Arson x Rainy litter sometime during the day (which are really super already!).
Not expecting much for any of the rabbits. With the heat, everyone has blown their coats. The worst is probably Arson... He has no coat right now.
Litter wise, Desperado x Piper have a gorgeous litter! They'll be 8 weeks on Monday, but I have a gorgeous typed and marked little Black buck. Also have a nicely marked Black doe and Blue doe. They're both a bit on the runty side, but show promising type.

Heat Wave

Hope everyone here in the northwest is doing alright with all this heat. Yesterday it hit 105 degrees here! I had to dunk all the rabbits, which helped them some. Have fans going, and the freezer is working overtime freezing water bottles. We have AC in the house, which if anyone is really suffering, I can bring them in. I'm trying to avoid this, as it'll be hard to get them back outside in this heat after adapting to the house.
I had three litters born at the end of last week, all of which I've taken all the fur out of their boxes, so they don't overheat.
The litters born last week are:
Rodeo x Cover Girl
Desperado x Sasha
Rodeo x Ladybug

A week from Saturday is the Clusters of Specialties. I'm secretaring the two Dutch specialties. In conjunction, there will be an all breed show this year, which is a benefit show for judge Kevin. He fell and hurt his back last month, and has been having quite a few complications due to this. My dad is working on several projects to put in the raffle, including one of the fancy grooming tables, and two gardener tool boxes. I think he has a few other things he's putting in too...
I'll be entering 7 Dutch in the shows. Then Nicole and I will have 5 Silver Martens entered.
My dad and I will be making a trip to Eastern Washington, to Lloyd's place, sometime next week. Lloyd is selling out of rabbits, due to health problems. I'll be picking up several new rabbits, including a pair or trio of his pure Blacks (only produce Black, no matter what they're bred to-- Zoe is one).
Hope everyone stays cool in the meantime. It's suppose to be 99 degrees today....

Bella

The newest member of my family just joined us this last Monday.... Bella. She is a Doberman Pinscher, who we suspect is a gladiator, because of her long limbs and body (what Harley was). She's very slim, and has floppy ears. She's close to two years old. She will only be with us for a year though, as I'm only babysitting her, as her owner leaves for Iraq next month. It'll be hard to give her up, but it's for the best, as it solved some stuff for me. She already fits in great with our family, and is a sweetheart. She loves to play outside (we have a very large backyard). She's very curious about Callie, my mom's cat, and all the rabbits. She's a very quick learner, and already knows to not go in the rabbit buildings without me (a few of the rabbits have forgotten about dogs...).

Another big win!

Nicole and I had a great day with the Silver Martens last Saturday! Arson won BOB both shows, and in show B he won RESERVE IN SHOW! Jake was the judge. He is now up to 9 legs.

Maddy was BOS in the first show, and went on to win Best of the Best Opposites! Floyd was the judge. Not sure yet if there were enough does for a leg, but I don't think there were...

The Dutch did really well in show A. My Black jr doe was BOB, with her brother, a Blue jr buck being BOS. Both get their first leg. Show B, I had BOV and BOSV Black, however there were only two breeders, so no leg. Jan was BOB with her awesome little Blue jr doe, and Jean was BOS with her Tort buck.
I didn't plan on it, but end up selling the Blue buck who was BOS. I had a breeder who really wanted a Blue buck.
I do have a Black junior buck for sale. He has one leg, for a BOSV at state. He's a near perfectly marked Dutch, gorgeous head and head markings. He's just weak in the shoulders, pinched, and lacking width. He has good depth though.

Washington State Convention

Last weekend was state convention, which was a lot of fun. I went with 17 rabbits, and came home with only 11. It's nice having a lot of empty cages! Here's some of my results:

Saturday Results:
Judge Scott Williamson
DDLB (Black Jr Buck)- BOSV, 1st of 8
DDAE (Black Jr Buck)- 3rd of 8
Pipsqueak (Blue Sr Doe)- 1st of 4

Sunday Results:
Judge Connal Addison
DDLB (Black Jr Buck)- 2nd of 8
DDAE (Black Jr Buck)- 3rd of 8
DDSE (Black Sr Doe)- 2nd of ?
Pipsqueak (Blue Sr Doe)- 1st of 4
Paisley (Blue Jr Doe)- 2nd of 6 (to the Best of Breed rabbit-- judge went back and forth between them!)

Big congrats to Jan on her Best of Breed, and Reserve in Show both days with a gorgeous little Blue jr doe! She said the grandma is a doe she had gotten from me. She also had a gorgeous little Blue jr buck from the same litter as the doe that did well for her. Jean was Best Opposite Sex both days, with two different Tort bucks.
For the Silver Martens, Maddy was Best of Breed both days. Arson was Best Opposite Sex on Saturday. Maryann was BOS on Sunday with a Black buck.
I do not have any show rabbits for sale right now, however do have some pet quality rabbits available. Come this fall, I should have more breeding stock for sale.
Next show is in three weeks in Monroe.

For Sale

Keep meaning to put up some for sale rabbits, but things have been really busy here lately. Here's my current for sale list:

DDPF a 4 1/2 month old Black buck. Really nicely typed rabbit, he just has a few marking flaws. I'd like his saddle to be a bit straighter, and he has a small drag off the back of his neck. He has a super sweet personality! Always insists on attention at feeding time. He's out of Revolver (RGC/4 legs) and Piper (RGC/3 legs).

DDAG a 3 month old Black doe. She's nicely marked, just a bit small, and hasn't really developed for type yet. She's out of Desperado (RGC/7 legs) and Sasha (RGC/3 legs). I don't have a picture of her yet, but can take one if requested.

DDCB a 4 1/2 month old Blue doe. A really nice doe, super type, and really nice markings, other than her stops, which are really long. Stops are a marking that I'm picky on, but everything else on her is really super. She's already been to one show, and got excellent comments. I just have another Blue doe the same age that I like better. She's out of Rodeo (Reg/2 legs) and Cover Girl (Reg/1 leg).

All three will be with me at State Convention this weekend. I'll be showing nine Dutch, all of which are juniors except two. Nicole and I are showing three Silver Martens. I was going to post pics of my upcoming juniors, but when I try to make the pics smaller, it changes the look of the pic, and makes them all flat, even though they are not.
Venus and Ruby D both have litters that are at weaning age right now. Piper and Zoe just had litters last week. Rainy the Silver Marten had a litter of seven (4 Blue, and 3 Black) to Arson, our recent BIS winner.
Over the next couple of days I'll be breeding several does. Desperado is leaving this weekend, so he'll be bred to several does. Him and Sushi are going to go live in Vancouver. Maybelline and Aurora will be going to live in Ellensburg.

In Loving Memory...

Roxy Roo
January 1, 2003- May 12, 2009
This has been a very hard week. Tuesday night, Roxy my rabbitry helper and sidekick had to be put down. Sunday evening she had gotten into the garbage when no one was home and ate stuff that she shouldn't have. Some of it got stuck in her lower intestine, which could only be removed with surgery. Roxy was my constant companion, and always by my side. I'm use to whenever I'm home, her following me everywhere. Feeding the rabbits is not the same without her constantly under foot. She will be missed...

Double Dutch's Frankie
March 17, 2001- May 15, 2009
To top things off Friday morning I discovered Frankie had passed away. Frankie passing away feels like the end of an era to my rabbitry. He goes back really close to the beginning of my line. His sire is Silver, my first Best in Show winner and his dam is Trelawn Sisqo. His grandfather is Coffelt's Scout, my first Best of Breed winner (and one of my very first Dutch!) and his grandmother is Dominque who was my first homebred Grand Champion and first homebred Best of Breed winner. Dominque then was out of Brak's Naomi (RGC/9 legs) and Brak's Lupo (RGC) from Donna Brak, who I consider the start of Double Dutch Rabbitry, all the way back in 1994. I credit both Donna and Jan Coffelt as the two who gave me my start in the breed, and Lloyd Gregg (Trelawn), whose always helped me out along the way to make it what it is. To see more pics of him, and his impact to my line, his page on my site is: http://www.geocities.com/doubledutchinfo/mrbluebuckfrankie.html

BEST IN SHOW!!!!!!!!

So this has been a really bad week (more on that in an upcoming blog), so it's nice to have something good happen! Nicole took the Martens down to Canby, OR with her today. In show A, with Julie judging Arson finally won his first Best of Breed! With BOS going to Maddy for her third granding leg. BIS judging was done by Jeff (a former top Silver Marten breeder here in WA) and Karen. Arson won Reserve in Show!
Show B was judged by Jennifer from CA. Arson was once again Best of Breed for his 6th leg. BOS went to Larry and Sharon. Best in show judging was done by Jennifer and Mike, and Arson went on to win BEST IN SHOW!!!!! Nicole said that they barely even looked at him, so she thought he was out of the running. When they announced it, they said that it was an easy choice for them.
We're just now hoping he can hold his coat for state next month!

Monroe Show & For Sale

Was just trying to update my website's for sale page and had it all ready to save, however it will not let me save the page, and now geocities is not working... Figured I'd post my Monroe results and current for sale list here in the meantime. Other than the for sale page, my website is not going to be getting many updates for a bit, as geocities has decided to close all their free sites at the end of the year. This means moving my whole site to a new provider... I'm probably going to upgrade my current site to a paid domain, but until this is done, I'm not going to be doing anymore work to it.
The Monroe show was last week. I only showed 6 Dutch, but was happy with my results. Pipsqueak was Best Opposite Sex in the first show for her third granding leg. She lost to Jean's Black buck. Show B, Pips was Best of Breed for her fourth leg! BOS went to Jean. No one else had results worth mentioning, other than my little Blue jr doe out of Cover Girl x Rodeo. She was 1st of 2 both shows, losing to Pips, however she got really promising comments from both judges. Jake says she's going to be hot! Kevin said that she should be great for state convention next month. She a very nicely typed doe, the only thing I do not like on her are her super long stops.
For the Silver Martens, Arson was Best Opposite Sex both shows for his third and fourth legs, and is now a Grand Champion. BOB both shows was Sharon & Larry with their Black doe.
Nicole will be taking the three Martens to the Canby show this weekend. Hopefully Arson can get over this BOS slump (has only gone to four shows, and has won BOS at each one) and go for Best of Breed!

Current for sale animals are (for pics go to: http://www.geocities.com/doubledutch84/dutstock.html):

Double Dutch's Desperado
Black Sr Buck
Born 12/5/06
Herd Buck
Registered Grand Champion 7 legs (BOB of 104, BOS of 55)
Sire- Double Dutch's Bentley (Blue, RGC/6 legs)
Dam- Double Dutch's Zoe (Black, RGC/3 legs)
He is a herd buck, and has produced RGC's. Has excellent markings, and a gorgeous head. Has good width, I'd just like a bit more depth to him. Is the sire of Belle Starr (RGC/4 legs) and grandfather of Pipsqueak (RGC/4 legs).

Double Dutch's Sushi
Black Sr Doe
Born 5/29/07
Proven Brood Doe
Registered Grand Champion 3 legs
Sire- Double Dutch's Bazooka (Blue, Reg/3 jr legs)
Dam- Double Dutch's Sage (Black, RGC/5 legs)
An excellent mom, I'm just cutting down on my brood does. Is a nicely typed doe.

Double Dutch's Aurora
Black Sr Doe
Born 1/27/08
Proven Brood Doe
Registered
Sire- Double Dutch's Bentley (Blue, RGC/6 legs)
Dam- Double Dutch's Sushi (Black, RGC/3 legs)
An excellent mom, I'm just cutting down on my brood does. Has really good hindquarters, just a bit long in the shoulders.

Double Dutch's Maybelline
Blue Sr Doe
Born 1/27/08
Proven Brood Doe
Registered
Sire- Double Dutch's Bentley (Blue, RGC/6 legs)
Dam- Double Dutch's Sushi (Black, RGC/3 legs)
An excellent mom, I'm just cutting down on my brood does. Nicely typed, could just use a bit more depth.

A Visitor...

So for the last month, my rabbitry has been getting a visitor.... Someone's pet rabbit that must have gotten loose (or was set free...). He's a chestnut colored crossbreed, with a white stripe down his nose, so he either has Dutch or the vienna gene behind him. The little mooch has been enjoying the feed that drops on the ground, and all the hay under my hanging cages. He's also made several borrows under my hanging cages. He's even accidently gotten locked in with my rabbits over night a few times, as he hides behind the cages till we're gone. He's also been driving my dog, Roxy, crazy, who keeps trying to let me know that there is a rabbit loose.
Today, while I was feeding, I saw him hop into one of my buildings to escape the snow (yes, it's April, and it was snowing here today...). I quickly shut both doors, and got a flashlight. Took me a bit of manuvering, however I managed to catch him! Since he's been on his own for the last month and really wild now (has been chased numerous times by Roxy), my dad took him not far from our home, and set him loose in the woods.

ERBA Show

The ERBA show in Yelm was last Saturday. Other than it being freezing cold, it went well (took forever to unfreeze from it!). My rabbits did a lot better than I was expecting! I was not expecting anything with the Dutch, and only took four of them, but was very happy with their results.

Rodeo (Black Sr Buck)- 1 of 2 both shows
DDSC (Black Jr Doe)- BOSV of 3 both shows
Ariel (Blue Sr Doe)- Not sure what she placed in show A, I think she was third, but in show B, she was Best of Breed for her third granding leg!
Pipsqueak (Blue Sr Doe)- my biggest surprise of the day, in show A she was Best Opposite Sex (second leg), and show B was 2nd to Ariel. Not bad for a doe who was just skin and bones two months ago!

Then the Silver Martens also did very well, which Nicole and I have three really nice ones coming up.

Arson (Black Jr Buck)- Best Opposite Sex both show for his first two legs
Maddy (Black Sr doe)- I think she was 1st of 2 in the first show... Show B she was Best of Breed for her second leg!
Flame (Blue Jr doe)- Not sure how she did... I think she might have been second both shows.

For only taking 7 rabbits, not bad getting 2 BOB's, and 3 BOS's! Since this was the 60th anniversary show for the ERBA, they had cool prizes. BOB got glass beer steins, and BOS got glasses.
I judged the youth show during show A (and partly into show B), so saw several breeds. BIS went to a gorgeous White Mini Rex (not sure of the owner's name), with RIS being a really nice Black Polish of Jessica's (Jan's grand daughter). Show B, I judged a bunch of smaller breeds. I was extremely impressed with the Florida Whites that I judged, and it was really cool to see the one I picked go on to get BIS in show B, owned by Maryann. RIS show B went to the Silver that I also judged, which was also really nice. It was owned by Patsy.

Baby wise, I have four litters due on March 23rd, they are:
Stryker x Jill's Wild Blue Venus
Rodeo x Revlon
Desperado x Sasha
Bazooka x Zoe

Current litters are doing well. Looks like there are some nice show prospects for state convention :)
Next show isn't until May 2nd, the NWRB, which I'm judging at. The next day there will be a Dutch specialty. After debating over it for quite awhile, my dad and I decided to skip the Yakima show, including the specialty the next day.
I know it's been awhile since I've updated my website (so much easier to just update this). An update should be coming hopefully in the next week.

Baby Explosion!

With all the recent problems here, I was afraid that none of my does would take. I'm happy to say of my 8 does that were due this last Friday, 6 of them took! These are going to be my older juniors for State Convention (will be almost 5 months old at the time). There are several nicely marked rabbits, so hopefully I have a few big winners! The litters are:

Born on 2/5/09
Sasha x Desperado- 2 Blacks, 2 Blues
Ladybug x Stryker- 4 Blacks, 1 Blue
Piper x Revolver- 3 Blacks, 5 Blues

Born on 2/6/09
Maybelline x Stryker- 7 Blues
Cover Girl x Rodeo- 2 Blacks, 3 Blues

Then Zoe had 3 Blacks, however they all dead. Sushi and Aurora are both due in a couple of weeks. Hopefully come May, I'll be able to get my show Dutch numbers up. Hope everyone else's nestboxes are full!

Updates

It's been awhile since I've updated this. Things have been busy here. Reading my last blog, quite a bit has happened since then.
Starting with bad news, sadly, Bentley is gone. This is a big set back for my rabbitry, as he was my best herd buck, being the sire of Stryker (RGC/20 legs, 3 BIS), Brody (RGC/9 legs, 1 RIS), Ladybug (RGC/6 legs, 1 RIS), Desperado (RGC/7 legs), Ricochet (RGC/5 legs), Sophie (RGC/5 legs), Shadow (RGC/5 legs), Blue (RGC/4 legs), Spice (RGC/3 legs), etc. A couple of his more noteable grandchildren are Vixen (RGC/12 legs, 1 BIS, 3 RIS) and Rimfire (RGC/14 legs, 1 RIS).
He'll be remembered in his numourous offspring that he has here in the NW (and a few over in New Jersey) for my rabbitry and many others.
For more on Bentley, his page on my website is: http://www.geocities.com/doubledutchinfo/mrbluebuckbentley.html
For the feed problem, after switching feeds, and letting the effects of the other one wear off, my rabbits have not had any problems. I did lose three Silver Martens recently, a week after they came to live here, however they were on the brand that I had problems with up until they came here.
Purina labs have confirmed that it was indeed pig food mixed in. As this was one of their lesser used brands, I do not know many people who use it, only two others. One of which lost 9 rabbits at the same time as me. After I started losing rabbits, I was told of a breeder who lost over 100 rabbits last summer on this brand. One of Purina's other brands had issues with chicken food mixed in it, which it was said that there was a hole in one of their mills. Not sure if this is the same reason for the pig food or not... However to be on the safe side, I will be sticking with a different brand. I did really love the brand that I had problems with. I've used it for 8 years, and always had great condition on my rabbits, and the rabbits loved it too.
Everyone else is doing well. Pipsqueak is back outside, and starting to fill in quite a bit. She looks like she might be able to go to the Yelm show in March.
I had stopped breeding for awhile with all the feed issues going on, so will not have anything to show for awhile. I finally just got back to breeding all the rabbits. The following does are bred:
Due February 6th:
Zoe x Stryker
Jill's Wild Blue Venus x Bazooka
Ladybug x Stryker
Sasha x Desperado
Maybelline x Stryker
Cover Girl x Rodeo
Revlon x Revolver
Piper x Revolver
Due February 20th:
Sushi x Bazooka
Aurora x Stryker
My only litter right now is about 4-5 weeks old out of Trelawn Ruby D x Bentley. There are only two, and both are showable. I have a nice looking little Black buck, other than being close to having tied elbow (doesn't quite touch) and a little Blue doe with a narrow blaze. I will be keeping both, since they're the last Bentley babies. When I rebreed Ruby, she'll be bred back to her sire Bazooka most likely.
I do not currently have anything for sale, because of the lack of litters. I sold my last two for sale rabbits a few weeks ago.
